Nantucket Whaling Museum: A Must Do!

5/31/2024

There’s a great Nantucket "must do" that should be top of mind when planning your trip to our boutique hotel. And that is a visit to the beautifully curated Nantucket Whaling Museum.

Restored in 2005, the Nantucket Whaling museum showcases a diverse collection of historic artifacts, art, and installations that transport visitors back in time to Nantucket’s rich history. And it’s not just about whales!

A visit to the museum this summer season affords you a chance to take in crafts and a fine arts collection showcasing the island's artistic boom in the 1960’s; celebrate 50 years of conservation on the island with a special commemorative exhibit; tour the restored Harden & Barney candle factory, and view the collection of bounty salvaged from the wreck of a Nantucket whale ship.

...Not to mention taking in the breathtaking 46 foot long Sperm Whale skeleton on permanent display and oohing and ahhing over the detailed workmanship in the scrimshaw gallery.

The museum is just a block away from 21 Broad, so a quick trip is super easy. Whether as an afternoon outing that gives you a break from the summer sun, or an illuminating rainy day activity, we strongly suggest adding this classic and very worthwhile spot to the itinerary of your next ACK getaway!
